We all have parents. You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t. There comes a point in adult life where you have to become your own parent though. I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t taught how to give myself the love and support I needed. I learned to seek it from outside sources. However, we cannot find this from outside ourselves.
When it comes down to it, we are the ones that have to motivate ourselves. Everyone has expectations of what we should do with our lives, but it is you who has to decide, but how do you become your own source of love and support?
Who were you before you were taught who to be?
Your inner child is the aspect of you that is curious, spontaneous, innocent, open, and full of joy and wonder. It is also the aspect of ourselves that holds our innermost fears and pain.
When ignored, the inner child can create patterns of self-sabotage and unhelpful habits. It can cause us to hid who we really are in fear of being seen.
When I found myself on consent flight or fight mode, having a constant knot in my stomach and not knowing why, it was inner child needing to feel safe!
You know when they say that when you have a traumatic event in childhood that a part of you stays there? It’s that aspect of you that gets stuck, that you carry with you today. Imagine that child in your world today. It’s that aspect of you that causes fear when trying new things, that stays hidden to stay safe, that can cause all sorts of blocks as we strive to achieve and receive more in our lives.
Listening to your inner child can create more self-respect, self-love, and inner groundedness. Inner child work can undo old patterns, allowing you to follow your true life purpose.
But how can you start to connect with this aspect of yourself, how can you start to listen to your inner child?

Perspective: Let Your Inner Child Out to Play
Spending a little time with yourself on this deep level everyday can help you connect with your inner child, your inner essence. It will help increase your self-love, trust in your intuition, and your joy and creativity.
Meditation: Connecting with Your Inner Child
This is a 7-minute training I did inside my group coaching program, Reclaim. It includes a meditation that will help you connect with your inner child and find out if they have anything to say.
Other ways to connect with your inner child:
- Be creative: What does your inner child like to do? Allow yourself to express yourself artistically.
- Play: How can you play? What did you like to do as a child?
